When exactly Oprah Show is going to end?

Oprah Winfrey was set to announce Friday that her powerhouse daytime television show, the foundation of a multibillion-dollar media empire with legions of fans, will end its run in 2011 after 25 seasons on the air.

Winfrey planned to announce the final date for "The Oprah Winfrey Show" during a live broadcast, according to her production company, Harpo Productions Inc.

Many fans heading into Harpo Studios on Friday morning seemed to support Winfrey's decision to end the show.

"You always want to end a show when people want more — and not when people are sick of watching you," said Rebecca Switaj, 31, of Chicago.

Said Sandra Donaldson, 51, of Indianapolis: "It's time to elevate to something new. Whatever she does is going to be a blessing. It's going to be rewarding and eye-opening. Her name alone opens doors."

Once a local Chicago morning program, the production evolved into television's top-rated talk show for more than two decades, airing in 145 countries worldwide and watched by an estimated 42 million viewers a week in the U.S. alone.

"Oprah Winfrey is in a category of her own," said Robert Thompson, professor of television and popular culture at Syracuse University. "This is a great American story and like any great American story it's supersized."

A Harpo spokeswoman declined to comment Thursday on Winfrey's plans except to say that "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which has seen ratings slip 7 percent from a year ago, will not move to cable television.

Winfrey, 55, is widely expected to start up a new talk show on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, a much-delayed joint venture with Discovery Communications Inc. that is projected to debut in 2011. OWN is to replace the Discovery Health Channel and will debut in some 74 million homes. An OWN spokeswoman declined comment Thursday.

CBS Television Distribution, which distributes "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to more than 200 U.S. markets, held out hope it could continue doing business with Winfrey, perhaps producing a new show out of its studios in Los Angeles.

"We know that anything she turns her hand to will be a great success," the CBS Corp. unit said in a statement. "We look forward to working with her for the next several years, and hopefully afterwards as well."

Fans expressed hope that Winfrey would announce another project.

"Oprah, she impacts everybody, her life, the way she gives," Shawana Fletcher, 29, of Chicago, said outside Harpo Studios. "I hope she's not totally done. That's what we're praying."

Winfrey's 24th season opened this year with a bang, as she drew more than 20,000 fans to Chicago's Magnificent Mile for a block party with the Black Eyed Peas. She followed with a series of blockbuster interviews — Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, singer Whitney Houston and ESPN's Erin Andrews, and just this week, former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

As a newcomer, "The Oprah Winfrey Show" chipped away at talk king Phil Donahue's dominance. Later, turned to inspiration. The show covered ranged from interviews with the world's celebrities to an honest discussion about Winfrey's weight struggles.

"As the show evolved, it really kind of dressed up the neighborhood of the daytime talk show," Thompson said.

In 1986, pianist-showman Liberace gave his final TV interview to Winfrey, just six weeks before he died. In a 1993 prime-time special, Michael Jackson revealed he suffered from a skin condition that produces depigmentation. Tom Cruise enthusiastically declared his affection for the much-younger Katie Holmes on the program in 2005 — and jumped on the couch to prove it.

In 2004, Winfrey unveiled her most famous giveaway, when nearly 300 members of the studio audience opened a gift box to find the keys to a new car inside. The stunt became a classic show moment as much for Winfrey's reaction — "You get a car! You get a car! You get a car! Everybody gets a car!" — as its $7 million price tag.

The show also became a launching pad for Oprah's Book Club, which then launched best-sellers. The titles ranged from "Song of Solomon" and "Paradise" by Toni Morrison to Wally Lamb's "She's Come Undone" and Elie Wiesel's "Night."

For others, the selection backfired. "A Million Little Pieces" exploded in sales after Winfrey chose the James Frey memoir in fall 2005. Soon after, it was revealed as a fabricated tale of addiction and recovery, and Winfrey later chewed out Frey on her show.

"I call her `Queen of the New Consciousness' because she did so many things to change lives, the books that she promoted," said hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons.

The loss of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" would be a blow to CBS Corp., which earns a percentage of hefty licensing fees from TV stations that use it — largely ABC affiliates. CBS Chief Executive Leslie Moonves told analysts two weeks ago that the contract with the show runs through most of 2011 and "if there's a negative impact, it wouldn't hit us until '12."

"Oprah's been a force of media and there's really no person you can look to out there who you could say, `That's the heir apparent,'" said Larry Gerbrandt, an analyst for Media Valuation Partners in Los Angeles. Gerbrandt noted many stations build their schedules around Winfrey's show.

"It's a big loss, but not as huge as it would have been 10 years ago," he said. "However, it still commands the biggest audience and ABC station competitors are licking their chops."

Talk of the show's end often has accompanied Winfrey's contract negotiations. Before signing her current contract in 2004, she talked about quitting after the 2005-2006 season. As far back as 1995, she called continuing "a difficult and important decision."

Winfrey started her broadcasting career in Nashville, Tenn., and Baltimore, Md., before relocating to Chicago in 1984 to host WLS-TV's morning talk show "A.M. Chicago" — which became "The Oprah Winfrey Show" one year later. She set up Harpo the following year and her talk show went into syndication.

Powered by the show's staggering success, Winfrey built a media empire. Harpo Studios produces shows hosted by Dr. Phil McGraw and celebrity chef Rachael Ray. O, The Oprah Magazine was the nation's 7th most popular magazine in the first half of 2009.

"I came from nothing," Winfrey wrote in the 1998 book "Journey to Beloved." "No power. No money. Not even my thoughts were my own. I had no free will. No voice. Now, I have the freedom, power, and will to speak to millions every day — having come from nowhere."

Earlier this year, Forbes scored Winfrey's net worth at $2.7 billion.

Joe Jackson, the father of Michael Jackson, is still seeking to dismiss the executors of his late son's estate with a new appeal filed in court.

According to the papers, filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Jackson objects to the appointment of John Branca and John McClain as executors of the estate and requests that they be dismissed in an appeal of the final order delivered by the judge on November 10.

Last week, Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff decided that Jackson cannot challenge the executors of the King of Pop's will or inherit the late star's assets, according to the Associated Press. The judge said that the 81-year-old Jackson patriarch can follow through with a motion to seek a family allowance from Michael's estate -- but he cannot inherit his late son's assets because he is not named in the will.

AMANDA Peet says she tries to keep her sexy body in check — but she often wonders why she bothers.

The 37-year-old actress — who stars opposite John Cusack in the brilliant new movie 2012 — admits she realizes she can’t stop her body from aging.

“It’s not really working,” Peet told Parade magazine. “I have an inner conflict. I’ll be at the gym and I’ll start thinking, ‘What am I doing? I’m going to sag no matter what I do.’

A Nobel Peace prize for Obama. WHY?

“He won what?” is the first universal reaction.
And second, at least on the Right: “Why did they do that?”

Even the Nobel committee’s citation does not pretend Barack Obama has actually achieved anything. Rather, it was given to him “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” That’s efforts, not achievements.

Reading carefully through the entire citation suggests that Obama is being celebrated for two reasons. Its chatter about “a new climate,” the United Nations, a “vision of a world free from nuclear arms,” and “great climatic challenges” points to his being the anti-George W. Bush.

Second, the prize committee hopes to constrain Obama’s hands vis-à-vis Iran. It lauds him for not using force: “Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts.” This is obviously gibberish: Whereas Bush did not use force against North Korea, Obama does not rely on dialogue in Afghanistan. But the statement does pressure Obama not to use force in the theater that counts the most, namely the Iranian nuclear build-up.

So, from the Leftist Norwegian point of view, it’s a twofer — bash Bush and handcuff Obama.

My prediction: The absurdity of the prize decision will harm Obama politically in the United States, contrasting his role as international celebrity with his record devoid of accomplishments. Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee, notes that Obama “won’t be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action.” Expert to hear much more along those lines.

It’s hard to believe that we’re almost finished with the eleventh season of Big Brother. It seems like just a few days ago that people such as Chima, Ronnie, Casey, and Laura’s gigantic breasts first appeared on our televisions screens.

We’re now down to the final three, and I must admit that I’m ready for the season to end. Not that there hasn’t been some entertainment this season. We’ve had a steady stream of live evictions that were memorable and unpredictable. Even the Tuesday episodes, traditionally the trash bin of silly filler, have had enough material to allow producers to edit them into precise stories that outshine the typical CSI garbage that fills their lineup.

Yet, it’s time to put the show to rest, as the finalists may be the most boring in the show’s history. Yeah, Kevin gives good diary room commentary, and Jordan’s naivety is good for a laugh or two. As for Natalie…um, I can’t think of anything entertaining about her. Sorry, Gnat fans.

But the last few days have been snooze fests on the feeds. Jordan sits outside and tries to memorize the alphabet, Kevin worries about which hoody matches his nerd shirt, and Natalie pats herself on the back for being the most loyal, honest person in the world. I don’t know how anybody can sit through more than a few minutes of this drivel.

At least tonight, CBS is keeping us in the dark as to what’s going to happen. We know that we’ll see tape of Tuesday’s round of the final HOH competition, and we’re supposed to also see round two. Other then that, we have no clue. There are rumors the last expulsion won’t happen until the finale, or that we may actually have a live show on Sunday (I doubt that one, though, since it’s the first NFL Sunday). It will be interesting to see just what CBS has planned for us tonight.

So let’s get started. Oooh, all three are officially lasting until finale night. Interesting. But after that announcement, Julie takes us to where we left off last Tuesday with Natalie, Jordan, and Kevin perched on a giant, rolling log.

This is not exactly exciting material. They’re all shocked by the introduction of the “elements”, and they all babble about how it’s so important they win. Natalie thanks Kevin for sticking to his word, and they flash back to Michelle’s eviction. Kevin goes on about how it was such a “huuuuuuuuuuge” decision. Um, sure. For the second time in two minutes, we hear Jordan babble about how she’s alone in the house. Natalie gloats, but the other two sort of ignore her. “Evil is gone.” Ugh.

Back to the competition, and Natalie is still babbling about Michelle. She needles Jordan about how Michelle can now hang out with Jeff, but Jordan says it doesn’t faze her. “You’re a little instigator.”

The log stops, and the rain begins. We hear Kevin complain again about the cold. Enough. Oooooh, Natalie almost falls, but swings around on her rope and saves herself. Jordan now whines about the “wind”…and then the “real” snow. “Can you torture me anymore?”

After three hours, Natalie starts egging the others to drop. Kevin says that he’s going until the sun rises, but Natalie counters he might as well just drop. She then whispers to Jordan that Kevin’s hand is starting to shake, and that if Jordan falls she’ll drop five minutes later. Natalie adds in the diary room that she’s just playing with Jordan to make her take her if she miraculously wins HOH.

Jordan complains that she’s cold, and Kevin sees that as an opportunity. He tells her to shiver so that she’ll warm up, knowing that it would distract here enough to drop. Sure enough, she falls. “I sort of zoned out because it went forward. I’d say it was a five hundred thousand dollar mistake.” Natalie and Kevin smiled at each other, knowing that their plan is working.

After a bit more self-congratulatory babbling, bickering, and a promise to take her to the finals (as they had promised a few days before), Natalie finally drops. This despite the fact that Kevin says in the diary room that his word means nothing in this house. “I hope this move pays off for me in the end”, says Natalie right before they show her jump. Thank God that’s over.

When we return from commercials, it’s time for Julie to chat with the final three. She informs them that all three of them will make it to finale night. They all yell “what?” over and over. Tonight will be part two of the HOH competition, and part three will be on finale night. The jury questioning will then happen immediately before the vote.

Now it’s time for Jeff to enter the jury house. They all hope that it’s Jeff coming in, and that they hope Kevin survives. Russell asks how he’ll handle Natalie if she’s evicted, and he babbles about how he’ll treat her respect. Ugh. Lydia explains that Natalie has a lot of explaining to do. Oh Lord.

Russell again says he hopes that it’s Jeff coming in, and they all jump for joy to see that it is indeed Jeff. Jeff says coming into the jury house was “nerve wracking”, and Lydia is happy to hear that Kevin backstabbed him. Russell says it’s “validation” that Jeff got burned by Kevin. Jessie can’t wait to inform Jeff that Natalie is 24, and surprisingly they all agree that she has survived by riding on everybody’s coattails.

They then watch the video as Lydia continues on needling Jeff. Jessie notes that Natalie “doesn’t even try”, and Lydia babbles more about how she doesn’t like her. Jeff says he thinks Jordan and Michelle will be the final two. Oh Lord, Jeff.

After commercials, Julie interviews “four of the best players in Big Brother history”. Hmmm, I don’t know if I agree with that assessment, but it is nice to see Janelle, Danielle, and Dick. I could live without Mike Boogie, but whatever. Dick is asked what he did with his prize money, and he says he’s “still playing with it”. Boogie “treated” himself to a Bentley, and kisses Julie’s ass with a baby gift.

They move on to game play. Danielle says that Natalie has played the best game because she “has lied really well”, and “gotten Kevin to do her dirty work”. Janelle says the worst move of the season was Jeff getting rid of Russell. Boogie says the best move of the game was Jeff got rid of Jessie, and Natalie and Kevin’s lie to get rid of Russell. Dick agrees with this.

They move on to Chima, and Boogie agrees that she should have been kicked out but says that people should give her a break because being in the house is very stressful. Dick says she lost sight of the end goal when she lost her mind. He’s clearly not a fan of this year’s final three.

Julie asks who they think is going to win - Boogie, Dick, and Janelle all say it will be Kevin. Danielle babbles about how women can only win if they’re sitting next to each other in the finals. I don’t know if I buy that. Wow, that segment wasn’t as entertaining as I thought it would be.

We move on to part two of the final HOH competition between Jordan and Natalie. The game is called “Heads Will Roll”, and the goal is to put balls with the HOH’s name on them in the correct order. Poor Jordan is not going to do well in this.

Natalie starts by getting all of the balls out. Oh wait, not all of them. She starts rolling them up, but is struggling. She ends the two minutes with five correct answers. I‘m surprised she didn‘t do better, but I predict that Jordan only gets two.

Too bad we have to sit through one more commercial break to get to Jordan’s turn. How is a girl who can’t remember what she had for breakfast possibly remember the order of HOH’s? She also grabs a handful of different balls first, and starts rolling them in, but spends too much time watching the balls instead of grabbing more. At the one minute mark, she does have four, and ties Natalie with five. OMG, she just beat her!!! Wow, she got nine out of ten!!! I can’t wait to see Natalie’s reaction.

Ah, Julie just confirmed that America will be the tie-breaking vote thanks to Chima’s departure from the game. Too bad that they’re making this as confusing as possible, as there are different numerical choices based on who makes the final two.

Kevin appears to be the most nervous to find out who won this round, and is shocked to discover that Jordan won! Jordan’s reaction? “I’m sweating.” She says she’s up for the challenge, and Natalie babbles that she should have won because she knows “everything” that has happened in the house. Yep, make it about yourself, you twit.

And that’s it for tonight!

Michael Jackson in a Concrete Wrapped Coffin

According to source, the coffin of the late pop king, Michael Jackson, will be covered using thick concrete so that robbers will not be able to steal it.

The King of Pop’s funeral is scheduled to be held as a family affair at a walled Los Angeles cemetery on September 3.

If sources are to be believed, then emotional farewell letters have been written for the late pop legend by his children, Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and Blanket, seven, that will be placed in his 18,000-pound gold-plated coffin, reports the Daily Express.

According to the newspaper, the trademark of gloves will also be placed in his coffin, while being buried.

Jackson’s brother Marlon has disclosed that MJ has been fitted with a new shoulder-length wig while his face was painted with full stage makeup.

Soul legend Aretha Franklin will be performing during the funeral which will be attended by just family and close friends.

A wall of concrete will then be poured around the coffin to keep ghoulish souvenir hunters at bay.

Marlon said: “This is the final step – the final curtain will be closed as regards to Michael’s life. It’s a quiet place where the children will be able to visit in private.”

Michael Jackson's children have written emotional goodbye letters which will be placed in his coffin.

Prince Michael I, 12, Paris, 11 and seven-year-old Prince Michael II - also known as 'Blanket' - scrawled messages including "Daddy we love you" and "Daddy we miss you" on notes that will be buried with the 'King of Pop' on Thursday (03.09.09).

The singer's brother Marlon has spoken about the letters and other details of Michael's funeral, which will be held in the family's compound at Los Angeles' Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

He claims Michael will also beburied with his trademark white glove, and has been fitted with a new shoulder-length wig. The star's face has also been painted with full stage makeup.

Marlon told Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper: "This will be a private ceremony. His hairstylist has made his hair special and a make-up artist has gone in and fixed him up so he's ready for the big day.

"This will be Michael's final curtain call - the last show. His shell will be gone but his spirit lives on."

After the ceremony - which will be attended by just a handful of family members and friends including Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross - Michael's coffin will be encased in thick concrete to protect it from grave robbers.

CCTV cameras and alarms will also protect the body.

Michael died of a cardiac arrest in June. His body has been stored in a refrigerated morgue at the cemetery ever since.

The LA County coroner officially ruled his death homicide on Friday (28.08.09).

Marlon claims he and the rest of the Jackson family blame Michael's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray - who is believed to have administered the powerful anaesthetic that killed the singer - for his death.

Marlon said: "Michael died and someone is to blame - and it's the doctor who was with him. Conrad Murray was the last person to be with Michael and he knows exactly what went on and he's not saying.

"I don't think anyone tried to kill Michael on purpose but something went wrong, something happened and, yes, some of my family do think it's murder.

Michael Jackson's sperm is being flown to England.

The singer's family is planning to spend £900 moving the sample to a secure London clinic to protect it from "unscrupulous" people who might use it to create a new heir to his fortune.

Michael - who died in June - deposited the genetic material in a Los Angeles sperm bank last year.

He was hoping it could be used to conceive his fourth child, but his family now fears "rogue elements" could use it to get their hands on Michael's billion dollar estate.

A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "It might sound crazy but when it comes to Michael anything is possible. With everything that's at stake the last thing the Jackson family need is someone using his sperm to give birth to a child and produce another potential heir to Michael's estate.

"The family know Michael authorised a number of people to access this sperm sample. The problem is they don't know who has access and given that a number of doctors have been implicated in his death then something sinister could easily happen."

The Jackson family has reportedly chosen to store the sperm in the British clinic because it has "extremely strict" security.

A clinic source said: "The samples are kept behind unbreakable barriers and we have several layers of security operating around the sperm bank 24 hours a day."

Once there, the sample will be cryogenically frozen and stored under an anonymous identity number.

Klein's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan said: "There was a possibility that the two older kids could be biologically linked to Dr. Klein. And Dr. Klein was well aware."

Klein has refused to take a DNA test to determine his biological relationship to the children.

Kaplan explained: "It would serve no helpful purpose for the children to be distracted from believing Michael Jackson is not the father in every possibility. It would be of interest to other people.

"It is not something Dr. Klein feels he is interested to establish. It would serve no purpose other than creating distraction or noise. Michael Jackson wasn't too picky when it came to his drugs, he was all about being an equal opportunity stoner. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that a bag of marijuana was found at his rented home.

Detectives found two baggies of "brown sticky solid substance" that they assumed was heroine, but it turns it out it was marijuana, reports Extra.

The recovered items were given to the L.A. County Coroner's Office. TMZ reports that during the search they also found a empty bottle of Lorazepam, an empty bottle of Diazepam, a baggy with the medical label with the name Dr. Conrad Murray, 2 cigarette packs, 1 cigarette paper, 4 pill bottles and 1 shaving case.

Detective Orlando Martinez wrote, "Conversations with family members lead me to believe that there may be additional medications and/or narcotics at the location as well as the necessity to confiscate these items for the safety of the minor children."

It seems like there's been an ongoing investigation regarding drugs at Michael's house for months and months now. Every drug under the moon has been "discovered" at his house. We get it. He used drugs. Bury the poor guy already and let him rest in peace.

Michael Jackson held two secret email accounts which he used to buy prescription drugs, it was claimed today.

According to Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper, police on Sunday said they had only recently discovered the tragic King of Pop kept accounts with AOL and Google’s Gmail.

“The email accounts could hold vital evidence with regard to Michael’s death and the drugs he was using regularly,” a source told the tabloid. “Not only did he get prescription drugs through a network of doctors, it’s believed he may also have got them from illegal websites or drug cartels. The LAPD has to get a search warrant first and this takes a few days.”

It has also emerged police have got the number for a private mobile phone used by Jackson. Detectives had not been told about the rarely used number until last week — despite interviewing some 35 witnesses close to the singer.

The mystery surrounding Michael Jackson's death is, slowly yet surely, unraveled as it has just been reported that the Los Angeles County coroner has ruled his death a homicide, citing a combination of drugs was the cause. The ruling, thus, makes it more likely that criminal charges will be filed against the late singer's physician Dr. Conrad Murray, who was with the King of Pop the day he passed away on June 25.

The news is first brought to public's notice by the Associated Press. In a report on its site, the news media claims "a designation of homicide means that Jackson died at the hands of another, but does not necessarily mean a crime was committed."

Dr. Conrad has become the person of interest in the manslaughter investigation conducted by the Los Angeles Police Department to determine the event that led to Michael's death due to cardiac arrest. According to a search warrant affidavit unsealed in a Houston court on Monday, August 24, Dr. Conrad admitted he'd been treating Michael for insomnia for six weeks, during when he gave the superstar 50 milligrams of propofol every night.

Fearing that Michael could be addicted to propofol, Dr. Conrad admitted to lowering the dosages and mixing it with two other sedatives, lorazepam and midazolam. He confessed that on the morning Michael passed away, he gave him the same combination of drugs that made him sleep.

At the time of writing, detectives are still investigating whether Dr. Conrad's action can be classified as negligence for an involuntary manslaughter charge. Meanwhile, Michael's family is still waiting for the final words from authorities on what killed the late singer.

And while the official cause of Michael's death will remain sealed until the manslaughter investigation is completed and the final autopsy report is released by the Los Angeles County coroner's office, the Jacksons have confirmed to bury Michael in a private ceremony at Holly Terrace in the Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif. on September 3.

Several members of the Jackson family have pointed the finger of blame for Michael Jackson's death firmly in the direction of his live-in doctor.

Jackson's brother Tito has questioned the actions of Dr Conrad Murray - who was at Jackson's Los Angeles home when he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest – and speculated that the cardiologist's failure to act quickly may have cost his brother his life.

It's been reported that Murray waited half-an-hour before dialling 911 after finding the pop legend unconscious because, he claimed, he was unsure of his employer's exact address.

“My opinion is that he panicked when my brother didnt wake up,” Tito said.

“I think the doctor probably figured he was in trouble and he tried to revive Michael. He did have a pulse but he couldnt bring him back.

“I dont know what the time lapse was between the doctor finding him and when he called paramedics.

“But I believe if he had immediately called for help we might still have my brother here today, he would definitely still be alive.

“Tito also accused Dr Murray of not carrying out proper resuscitation methods. It has been claimed the medic did cardiac massage on the dying star as he lay on a soft bed instead of a hard surface the accepted practice.”

Tito also expressed concern about Dr Murray's fruitless attempts to resuscitate Jackson.

He added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: “The CPR attempt is one of the things I noticed that was very strange.

“CPR is one of the first things you learn to do as a doctor, and you dont do it on a soft bed. And Tito also accused Dr Murray of disappearing in the wake of Jackos death. He said: Im not sure if he went with Michael to the hospital.”

Meanwhile, his brother Jermaine has also been left questioning Murray's role in the singer's tragic death.

"A doctor is supposed to keep someone healthy - but Michael went from good health to death in the space of one day," he said.

Speaking about the moment he first met Murray, he recalled: "The first time I met Dr Murray was at the hospital.

"I didn't feel good when I saw him because I felt that if he was a doctor, why was Michael not here? Why was Michael dead?"

Jackson's sister La Toya also says the behaviour of Murray immediately after Jackson's death has left her deeply troubled and with unanswered questions.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, she says she approached him in the hospital and asked what had happened and he just "mumbled a bunch of nothing."

She said: "He said something like, 'Michael didn’t make it, I’m sorry.' It wasn’t right. It felt weird."

Murray has maintained, through his lawyer, that he did not administer any drugs to the singer that may have resulted in his death.

Paul McCartney came to Citi Field on Friday night to bring a new ballpark one thing that can’t be built in: memories. No one was better qualified.
As a 23-year-old Beatle, Mr. McCartney introduced rock to a stadium audience on August 15, 1965, when the Beatles played a 34-minute set at Shea Stadium, which Citi Field replaced. The Beatles returned to Shea in 1966 on what would be their last tour.

Mr. McCartney was also at the final concert at Shea Stadium, joining the headliner, Billy Joel, on stage last year. Mr. Joel returned the favor on Friday night, singing, whooping and splashing piano chords in “I Saw Her Standing There.” In case the Mets weren’t enough, now Citi Field has musical continuity.

On Friday night, Mr. McCartney reminisced about 1965, imitating the muffled and distorted sound the Beatles got through the old stadium’s P.A. system, which by all accounts was drowned out by screaming girls. (Nearly 44 years later, somewhat older women seized their cue to scream.)

He also had other memories: of his fellow Beatles John Lennon, to whom he dedicated his memorial song, “Here Today,” and George Harrison, who had given him the ukulele he used to play Mr. Harrison’s song “Something.” He dedicated the ballad “My Love” to his late wife Linda, who sang with Mr. McCartney’s band Wings in the 1970s; she was part of the video backdrop when Mr. McCartney played “Band on the Run.”

The Citi Field audience brought its own memories: Beatles T-shirts and talismans, held aloft to soak up the occasion. When Mr. McCartney sang Beatles songs, in arrangements that nearly replicated the studio versions, there were loud, fond sing-alongs.

But Mr. McCartney wasn’t fixated on looking back. Although he has enough hits to fill his two-and-a-half-hour set with oldies from Wings, the Beatles and his solo albums, he chose to stay current as well, stumping the nostalgia crowd with songs from the album he released in 2008 as the Fireman, “Electric Arguments.” At 67, he is still a vigorous musician: writing tuneful and wily songs, playing assorted instruments, crooning his ballads ardently, hitting the high notes and howling like a rock and roller.

The presentation at Citi Field was a far cry from 1965.
Of course, Mr. McCartney wasn’t about to return to the primitive conditions of a 1965 Beatles show, when the band performed isolated on an empty ballfield with fans far away in the stands. (There was field seating, on covered turf, along with the stands at Citi Field.) Stadium concerts have evolved mightily, and Mr. McCartney had all the paraphernalia to make his music fill the stadium as the sound and image of the Beatles could not (which didn’t make the Beatles concerts any less exciting). Video screens rendered Mr. McCartney visible to the upper decks, and they illustrated songs like “Back in the U.S.S.R.” (with old images of Russia) and “Got to Get You Into My Life” (with the computer-animated Beatles from the video game “The Beatles: Rock Band”). Flash pots and fireworks blazed to underline the explosive transitions of “Live and Let Die.”

As always, Mr. McCartney was boyish onstage, making faces and tousling and re-tousling his hair. His genial and straightforward presence made some of his songs even more enigmatic, like “Jet,” “Helter Skelter,” “Flaming Pie” (the title song of Mr. McCartney’s 1997 album) and “Mrs. Vandebilt” (a song he resurrected from the Wings album “Band on the Run”).

Mr. McCartney performs like a musician cheerfully doing his job. He made no fuss over how many paths he opened with the Beatles and how much he can do. At Citi Field, the delicacy of “Yesterday” and “Blackbird,” the near-gospel of “Hey Jude,” the mandolin-strumming skiffle of “Dance Tonight,” the quasi-classical string parts of “Eleanor Rigby” (digitally simulated) and the lusty blues-rock of “Let Me Roll It” were all part of Mr. McCartney’s music, and all performed neatly and deftly. Mr. McCartney keeps his songs familiar; his band members barely deviated from the solos played by the Beatles and Wings. So when Mr. McCartney did make changes, they were striking — particularly when he segued from the middle of “A Day in the Life” into “Give Peace a Chance,” with a peace sign on the video screen and the crowd raising two-fingered V-signs while singing along.

When Mr. McCartney and the Beatles played Shea Stadium in the 1960’s, they were brash young rockers. It was before the orchestral ambition of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” or the introspection and style-hopping of “The Beatles” (known as the white album), with songs the Beatles themselves would only perform in the studio, though Mr. McCartney has taken them on tour. It was before Mr. McCartney’s songs became something parents introduced to children and grandchildren. And it was before Mr. McCartney had another four decades of experience, losses and memories to sing about, in a stadium that awaits history of its own.

Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon was picked by the Redskins in the supplemental draft today. There was some speculation that the Lions were considering taking him, but based on the fact that Washington ended up selecting him in the third round, it's pretty obvious that the Lions weren't willing to part with that high of a pick.

The way the supplemental draft works is that teams tell the NFL if they want to select a player, along with what round they want to pick him in. The highest "bidder" gets the player and has to forfeit a pick in that round in the 2010 draft. Since the Redskins ended up with Jarmon, they will lose their third-round selection next April. The Lions may have informed the NFL that they wanted Jarmon, but only a third-round pick would have brought him to Detroit.
Ernie Sims returned to Tallahassee last week to host a football and cheerleading camp for kids. Some Lions players attended the camp to help out Sims, including Kevin Smith, who talked about the event in his latest blog post.

At least nine people have been killed and 50 injured in two separate explosions at western-owned hotels in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
The blasts, which appeared co-ordinated, occurred virtually simultaneously, at the JW Marriott and the Ritz-Carlton hotels in central Jakarta at around 8am.
A car bomb also exploded along a toll road in North Jakarta, police said, where it is thought two people were killed.
South Jakarta Police Chief Firman Santyabudi confirmed the explosions had occured at both the luxury hotels in the upmarket neighbourhood of Kuningan, an area popular with foreigners and Indonesians, with many bars, offices and embassies.
“There were explosions heard from two separate places, one the JW Marriott, the other in the Ritz Carlton. We are still trying to check because right now we are still helping the victims,” he said.

Michael Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe on Thursday sued a woman for defamation on Thursday after news reports that claimed Rowe was willing to accept millions of dollars in exchange for giving up her custody rights to her two children with the dead pop star.

In the lawsuit, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Rowe contends that Rebecca White committed defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

White, who could not immediately be reached for comment, claimed to be a "close friend" of Rowe, the lawsuit said. The women did know each other.

The suit claimed White fabricated e-mails and other communications she said were sent to her by Rowe. In one case, White told an unspecified media outlet that Rowe had sent her an e-mail in which Rowe said she did not want the children but that it would look bad if she did not fight for their custody.

In reality, according to the lawsuit, Rowe and White never exchanged e-mails concerning Jackson, his family or their children. Additionally, Rowe has not e-mailed White since Jackson died last month, it added.

Rowe's attorney was not available for comment. It was not clear how much the lawsuit sought in damages.

Rowe was expected to attend a custody hearing concerning Jackson's three children on Monday. She is the mother of Prince Michael, 12, and daughter Paris, 11. Seven-year-old Prince Michael II, better known as "Blanket," was born to an unknown surrogate. Rowe was not mentioned in Jackson's will, which named his mother, Katherine Jackson, as their guardian.

To the dislikeness of polish fans, The promoter of the tour in Poland cancelled the concert due to a contractual dispute that was unable to be resolved. A statement on BritneySpears.com says Britney regrets she won’t be visiting Poland anymore.

‘The Circus Tour’ was scheduled to present in Poland next Friday (July 24th). To date, ‘The Circus Tour’ has 95 dates (including past dates and excluding cancelled Poland date), by far it’s the highest grossing tour of 2009 in North America.

168 killed in Iran plane crash

An Iranian passenger plane carrying 168 people crashed a quarter-hour after takeoff Wednesday, smashing into a field northwest of the capital and shattering to pieces. State television said all on board were killed.

The impact gouged a deep trench in the dirt field, which was shown littered with smoking wreckage in footage shown on state TV. It showed a large chunk of a wing, but much of the wreckage appeared to be in small pieces, and emergency workers and witnesses picked around the shredded metal for bodies.

The Russian-made Caspian Airlines jet was heading from Tehran to the Armenian capital Yerevan near the village of Jannatabad outside the city of Qazvin, around 75 miles northwest of Tehran, state television said. It crashed at about 11:30 am, 16 minutes after taking off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport, TV reported.

The Qazvin emergency services director Hossein Bahzadpour told the IRNA news agency that the plane was completely destroyed and shattered to pieces, and the wreckage was in flames. “It his highly likely that all the passengers on the flight were killed,” Bahzadpour said.

Iranian Civil Aviation Organization spokesman Reza Jafarzadeh told state television that 153 passengers and 15 crewmembers were on board. State TV said all were killed.

A Caspian Airlines representative told AP in Yerevan that most of the passengers were Armenians, and that some Georgian citizens were also on board. The representative spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to talk to the press.

Also among the passengers were eight members of Iran’s national youth judo team, along with two trainers and a delegation chief, who were scheduled to train with the Armenian judo team before attending competitions in Hungary on Aug. 6, state TV said.

Caspian Airlines is a Russian-Iranian joint venture founded in 1993. Iran has frequent plane crashes often because of bad maintenance of its aging aircraft. Tehran blames the problem in part on U.S. sanctions that prevent Iran from getting spare parts for some planes. Caspian Airlines, however, uses Russian-made Tupolevs whose maintenance would be less impaired by American sanctions.

In February 2006, a Russian-made TU-154 operated by Iran Airtour, which is affiliated with Iran’s national carrier, crashed during landing in Tehran, killing 29 of the 148 people on board. Another Airtour Tupolev crashed in 2002 in the mountains of western Iran, killing all 199 on board.

The crashes have also affected Iran’s military. In December 2005, 115 people were killed when a U.S.-made C-130 plane, crashed into a 10-story building near Tehran’s Mehrabad airport. In Nov. 2007, a Russian-made Iranian military plane crashed shortly after takeoff killing 36 members of the elite Revolutionary Guards.

Craig Titus & Kelly Ryan Investigation - They Plead Guilty!!

A week before Craig Titus and his wife, Kelly Ryan, became fugitives, the professional bodybuilders met with Las Vegas homicide detectives about the dead woman who was found in Ryan’s burned 2003 Jaguar.
Titus, 40, admitted to secretly having an affair with 28-year-old Melissa James, whose body was found in the trunk of the car. Titus and Ryan, 33, said James was their live-in personal assistant. They said that they had recently evicted her for embezzling from them, but that they had not filed a police complaint.
Both told investigators that James had stolen Ryan’s car, though they did not report the theft to police.
Titus and Ryan made those comments Dec. 14, hours after James’ body was discovered in the torched Jaguar off state Route 160, according to an arrest warrant filed in Las Vegas Justice Court. The warrant was issued for 23-year-old Anthony Gross, an alleged accomplice in the slaying. Gross is in custody.
But Titus and Ryan were set free after their interrogation because of a lack of evidence, and authorities presume the two have since fled, possibly to Greece.
Titus and Ryan have since been charged with murder and third-degree arson.
Maura James, who on Thursday marked her 51st birthday by remembering her daughter with relatives in Florida, said she hopes the fugitives will soon be caught.
“I find it hard to believe they had anything to do with it because she trusted them as friends,” she said. “I was shocked. I never imagined they’d be capable of doing anything like this.”
Witnesses told police that Titus had said he would flee to a country that would not extradite him.
Las Vegas police Lt. Tom Monahan said Titus “mentioned that he has been to prison and has no intention of going back.”
Titus was convicted of conspiring to possess and sell Ecstasy and served a couple of years in prison in the late 1990s after he tested positive for steroids.
Las Vegas police say that Titus killed Melissa James and that Ryan and Gross helped dispose of her body.
Ryan told police that after discovering funds missing from her accounts, she kicked James out of her $470,000 southwest Las Vegas home. The eviction came Dec. 13, a day before James’ body turned up in the remote desert.
James packed a suitcase and Ryan, a former Ms. Fitness America, dropped her off at a convenience store, Ryan told police.
But Ryan and Titus contradicted each other when police asked them separately which vehicle Ryan had used to take James to the store.
“Ryan told detectives she used her Jaguar to take James to the convenience store,” a police officer wrote in the report. “Titus said she used his silver Dodge truck.”
Maura James, who lives in New Jersey, said she last spoke with her daughter about 11:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time on Dec. 13. During the brief cell phone conversation, Melissa James said she was eating at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant.
Maura James heard her daughter ask someone what they wanted to eat. She asked her daughter whom she was with, but the question went unanswered.
A short time later, Melissa James wrapped up the call and said she would call back after lunch.
She never called back and never answered her mother’s follow-up calls.
The next day, a Wednesday, Maura James went to the Newark airport before 9 a.m. She was scheduled to pick up her daughter, who was coming home for Christmas. She said her daughter was also considering moving home to New Jersey.
Melissa James’ flight arrived, but she wasn’t on it. Maura James called her cell phone and left messages. Airport officials issued a page over a public address system. Maura James eventually returned home alone.
She later called Titus’ cell phone several times and left messages.
“I thought she had been in an accident or something,” she said. “I started calling hospitals in Las Vegas. Nobody had her.
“Thursday night is when I got the call from the coroner. … She had been strangled.”
Maura James said her daughter never mentioned being romantically involved with Titus, who married Ryan in Clark County in June 2000. Melissa James, who was a model and former dance instructor, had lived with the bodybuilders in Southern California several years ago.
Titus asked Melissa James to move to Las Vegas about two months ago, and she accepted, her mother said.
In the days before her death, James told her mother that she and Ryan were not getting along. She said she was staying at a hotel.
“I said, ‘Why?’ She said, ‘Well, Kelly is flipping out and acting crazy,’•” Maura James said.
Titus booked the hotel room for two nights, from Dec. 12 to Dec. 14, and paid for it with a credit card belonging to Emperor Enterprises, a company he and Ryan own, according to police.
“He said he had spent most of one night with James at her room,” investigators said in the report, quoting Titus.
Titus also paid for James’ plane ticket home, her mother said.
On Dec. 16, two days after James’ body was recovered, Amanda Polk, a young bodybuilder who had moved to Las Vegas to train with Ryan, contacted police with a tip. Polk met with investigators the next day and told them that she had received a phone call from Titus on Dec. 15 “saying he was in a bad situation (and) needed to get out of town for a while,” police said.
Titus and Ryan went to the home of Polk and her boyfriend later that evening. Ryan hugged Polk and said someone had found her Jaguar burned with a body inside. During a car ride to dinner, Ryan confided in Polk, she told police.
“Ryan proceeded to tell Polk she had found their roommate, Melissa, dead in her room from an overdose,” police said. “Polk said Ryan told her Melissa had been dead for a few hours and couldn’t describe what she looked like because it would traumatize Polk for life. Polk said Ryan proceeded to tell her” that her life was ruined “because she bought seven bottles of lighter fluid at Wal-Mart with her credit card” at 3:30 a.m.
Investigators say Polk confronted Ryan and asked her why she hadn’t called police when she found the body.
“Ryan responded by saying Craig told her, ‘No body, no crime,’•” police wrote in the report. “Ryan told Polk she just did what Titus told her to do, that she thought Titus got someone to get rid of Melissa and she didn’t kill anyone.”
Police say Titus met with business partner Gregory Ruiz at a Subway restaurant in the Las Vegas Valley on the morning of Dec. 17.
“Titus told Ruiz he had to leave the country,” an investigator wrote, adding that Titus had traded in his Dodge Viper truck for a new vehicle and intended to meet a friend in Boston to liquidate his assets.
Police obtained cell phone records that showed Titus called Anthony Gross in the early morning of Dec. 14.
Gross told investigators that he left his apartment in pajamas, filled up a can with gas and drove west on Blue Diamond Road until he saw flashing headlights from a Jaguar.
He told police that he pulled up beside the Jaguar, rolled down his window and handed Titus a metal gas can. He said he did not know what Titus did with the gas can and, though he gave Titus a lift back into town, the two never discussed what had happened.
On Dec. 14, before 5 a.m., a trucker saw the Jaguar ablaze. In the trunk, authorities found a body with white fabric around its neck and duct tape across the face.
An autopsy revealed that James had likely died from asphyxiation.
Police used the license plate on the car to trace the vehicle back to Ryan.
“I think they had hoped the fire would completely consume the car so that it would be unidentifiable,” Monahan said.
On Wednesday, however, Titus and Ryan — who have been on the covers of bodybuilding magazines — were being identified on television news broadcasts as murder suspects.
Neighbors recalled Thursday that Titus and Ryan often had visitors, some driving flashy cars — Ferraris or Mercedes. One neighbor described Titus as friendly, adding that his physique was noticeably smaller these days.
Titus, who graduated high school at 140 pounds, has often competed in the 250-pound range or more.
Police say he is now down to about 225 pounds.
A neighbor who did not want to be identified because Titus remained on the loose, said he had noticed another change in the man: “He’s smoking. Before, he was not smoking.”
Monahan said police have evidence suggesting that Titus’ loss of size was causing him to lose sponsorship contracts.
Maura James, meanwhile, recalled something her daughter had once mentioned about Titus, Ryan and steroids.
“She told me that since he was getting older, he was not going to be competing as much,” James said. “She used to tell me, ‘Yeah, they took them when they were getting ready for competitions. And they would go to the doctor quite a bit for checking organs and things like that.’•”
Monahan said he believes authorities will find Titus and Ryan sooner or later, in part because of their high profiles and flamboyance.
Their capture might bring a measure of consolation to a grieving mother.
You know what’s so hard?” James said. “They burned my daughter so that we can’t even see her again before we bury her. She is so sweet. She is so sweet and beautiful. I can’t imagine anybody doing that to her.”

Growing up, the Home Run Derby was always my favorite part of baseball’s All Star weekend. I used to love it. I remember my dad telling me about the Home Run Derby TV show that he used to watch with the old stars like Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Mickey Mantle; and there was just something inherently exciting about seeing baseball’s biggest and best stars step up to the plate with one thing on their mind: swinging for the fences.

And, of course, this was back in the late 80s and early 90s when my love for the long ball was still untainted by steroids. It was the same innocent awe with which I watched Big Mac and Sammy’s 1994 1998 (thanks Scott) pursuit of Roger Maris.

Times have changed now, and the home run isn’t quite what it used to be. And neither is the Home Run Derby. Maybe it’s because of steroids, maybe it’s just because I’m older, or maybe it’s because my childhood heroes like The Big Hurt and The Kid are no longer sweet-swinging for the fences the night before the All Star Game anymore. For whatever reason, the Home Run Derby is no longer must-watch TV for me now. I’m still interested in it, but I don’t plan my night around watching it.

With all that being said, I had the opportunity to re-watch last year’s Home Run Derby this past weekend. They replayed it on either ESPN or the MLB Network, I don’t remember which one, but I sat through the first hour of it just so I could watch Josh Hamilton put on the most amazing 10-out sequence in the history of the Derby. I didn’t get to watch the entire thing last year, but after seeing highlights and hearing people gush about it non-stop (especially here in Dallas), I had to watch.

And my goodness, it was everything it was cracked up to be and more. I could not find the actual TV broadcast on YouTube, but there is plenty of amateur video available from people who were in the stands that night. One of them is below:

have never seen a baseball player in that kind of zone before. And as the fans realized how hot Hamilton was, they seemed to cheer louder and louder with each successive blast. As the announcers said repeatedly, Hamilton may have only broken Bobby Abreu’s single-round record by four, but the difference in the sheer power on display was night and day.

Josh Hamilton wasn’t just hitting home runs, he was murdering baseballs and attacking bleachers. He appeared to be doing it so effortlessly too. And even though this comparison has been made millions of times over the past 16 or so months, I could not help thinking about how much Hamilton’s incredible story reminded me of one of my all-time favorite movies: The Natural.

Amazingly, Hamilton was not actually crowned the champion last year. Justin Morneau of the Twins won it all (as you can see from the chart below). But Morneau winning was simply a technicality based on the rules. The lasting memory of the 2008 Home Run Derby was Josh Hamilton’s record first round, for everything it was and everything it represented. We love baseball because it can provide such magical and majestic moments; last year, Josh Hamilton certainly provided that.

But that was 2008.

Tonight, eight players will do their best to provide an encore to Hamilton’s marvelous performance from last year. Here are the 2009 Home Run Derby participants:

At first glance, one thing is pretty clear: this has to be the biggest disparity ever between the stature of the players competing for the AL and NL, respectively. I have never been so underwhelmed at a Home Run Derby roster as I am looking at the AL. In fact, there is not one guy in the AL that I’m looking forward to seeing. All I hope is that Joe Mauer does incredibly well and then suffers a post-HR Derby dropoff like so many others have. The same goes for Brandon Inge. The best thing that could happen this weekend for the White Sox (who were screwed out of a couple additional All Star spots, damnit) would be Mauer and Inge screwing up their swings. Come on guys…you can do it!

The NL, however, has the kind of stars that fans want to see in the Home Run Derby. Albert Pujols will be competing in front of his home crowd, which is just great. Ryan Howard and Prince Fielder are the kinds of behemoth mashers that harken us all back to the days and memories of guys like Babe Ruth.

If the NL guys don’t hit double the amount of HRs that the AL guys hit, I’ll be surprised.

In fact, here are the 2009 Home Run Derby odds and betting lines, at least from one guy. Most of the odds I’ve surveyed have been very similar:

Boxing champ Arturo Gatti’s wife was arrested yesterday by Brazilian cops who suspect she strangled him with her purse strap, as people close to the slain fighter said they had long feared that either “he was going to kill her or she was going to kill him.”
Gatti’s wife, Amanda Carina Barbosa Rodrigues, 23, was being held yesterday because the Brazilian native can’t explain how she didn’t realize for nearly 10 hours that he was dead in a beach-resort apartment where they were staying with their 1-year-old son.
She is expected to be charged with his murder. A police spokeswoman told Reuters: “She [Rodrigues] is the only suspect.”
Police said they believe that Gatti – who was found dead early Saturday – was strangled with a handbag strap, and that the granite-jawed boxer also suffered a head injury.
The bloody strap was found in the apartment at the Porto de Galinhas resort.
Gatti, 37, reportedly was drunk and arguing with his wife Friday night at a resort bar.
Gatti’s friends yesterday were mourning his murder – and were not surprised to hear that Rodrigues might be involved. The former junior-welterweight champ and his wife were extremely jealous and often squabbled when out socially and drinking in New York, Montreal and Brazil, sources told The Post.
From the beginning of their relationship, his friends, family and boxing advisers warned that she was young, immature and gunning for the millions he had earned in the ring, sources said.
One source said that their disputes were sometimes violent and that she did not hesitate to physically attack him. He told people close to him that she threw a lamp at him last month in Montreal, where they moved after living in Weehawken, NJ.
“The feeling was that either he was going to kill her or she was going to kill him,” the source said.
Gatti’s family, who sources said were not the least bit shocked by Rodrigues’ arrest, learned of the murder while attending his sister Anna’s wedding in Florida.
“A lot of people in his inner circle felt that this wasn’t the right girl for him,” said Carl Moretti, VP of the boxing promotional company Top Rank Inc.

As investigators wait for the results of toxicology tests on Michael Jackson to determine the singer’s cause of death, older sister LaToya Jackson has come up with her own theories about what felled her 50-year-old brother. In an interview with England’s Mail on Sunday, LaToya blames her brother’s death on a shadowy cabal of hangers-on who she alleges manipulated Michael into signing up for a 50-date engagement at the O2 Arena in London and cutting him off from his family and friends.

“I believe Michael was murdered, I felt that from the start. Not just one person was involved, rather it was a conspiracy of people,” said LaToya, 53, a onetime Playboy model who was estranged from the Jackson clan for a time in the early 1990s, after she claimed that she believed Michael acted inappropriately with children. She later said she was manipulated into the statement by her controlling ex-husband.

Last week, the chief of the Los Angeles Police Department said it is still possible that the investigation into Jackson’s death could turn into a homicide case, depending on the results of toxicology tests.

“He was surrounded by a bad circle. Michael was a very meek, quiet, loving person. People took advantage of that. People fought to be close to him, people who weren’t always on his side,” LaToya said, not blaming anyone in particular, but referring to a “shadowy entourage” who supplied her brother with prescription drugs. Since his death, a number of stories have emerged detailing Jackson’s alleged addiction to prescription medications, including an intravenously delivered surgical anesthetic not intended for private use that the singer is said to have used as a sleep aid.

LaToya told the paper that less than a month ago, she thought Michael was going to die before his London shows — which were slated to kick off on Monday (July 13) — because “he was surrounded by people who didn’t have his best interests at heart.”

She said Michael never believed he would live to be an old man and feared he would die in his 50s. She suspected he was worth more dead to the “greedy people” around him than alive. LaToya also allegedly revealed some new information about her brother’s death, including her claims that he was not found on a bed, as reported, but inside the nearby bedroom of his personal physician, cardiologist Conrad Murray, who she said “disappeared” when she tried to question him at the hospital. Murray has been interviewed by investigators in the case and police have said he is not a suspect in Jackson’s death. LaToya said an IV drip was beside the bed where her brother was found and oxygen canisters lined the walls.

“They got him hooked on drugs,” LaToya said, vowing to file a civil lawsuit against anyone the family believes could be responsible for Michael’s death. “He was pure and clean, and then drugs came back into his system. I think it shocked his system so much it killed him.” She said he had needle marks on his neck and on his arms — which could be signs of intravenous drug delivery — and that he was strong-armed into doing the grueling 50-date string of O2 shows and kept away from his family during the long rehearsals for the gigs.

“It’s impossible even for a healthy person to do that many shows,” she reportedly told the paper. “Michael was fragile. He always wanted to believe the best of people. But he was meek. In the last few months, he became isolated. I believe the staff were given strict instructions that if any of the family called, not to tell him. And if any of the family came by, not to let them in.” The Jackson family has not responded to MTV News’ requests for comment on LaToya’s interview.

“I am going to get down to the bottom of this,” LaToya vowed. “I am not going to stop until I find out who is responsible. Why did they keep the family away? It’s not about money. I want justice for Michael. I won’t rest until I find out what — and who — killed my brother.”

While Jackson’s ex-wife, Debbie Rowe, long ago signed away custody of the couple’s two children, LaToya said she would also fight what appears to be a renewed effort by Rowe to gain custody of Prince Michael and Paris. “These are not Debbie’s kids,” she said. “They don’t even know she’s their mother. Like everyone else in his life, she was motivated by money. She has always said she’s not their mother. My understanding is that she will now go after the kids. I know a few things about Debbie, and I will prevent that from happening.” A custody hearing on the matter has been pushed back until next Monday (July 20).

It’s a slow week for new releases on Netflix, so I’ll keep it short…

Jackson's mom gets control of the kids

While the tributes to Michael Jackson keep flowing in, his family moved quickly to take control of his complicated personal and financial affairs yesterday.

And there were new revelations about his death, with a lawyer saying it took up to half an hour for paramedics to be called to Jackson's home after he was found stricken in his bedroom.

Jackson's mother, Katherine, won temporary custody yesterday of Michael's three children, aged 7 to 12.

The children – Michael Joseph Jackson Jr. (known as Prince Michael), Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael II – are living at the Jackson family compound in L.A.'s San Fernando Valley.

The Jacksons say they have not heard from Debbie Rowe, mother of the two older children, since their son's death.

A judge also allowed Katherine Jackson, 79, to take control of personal property of Michael's now in the hands of an unnamed third party but not any of the money in Jackson's estate.

Hearings have been scheduled for July 6 and Aug. 3 to consider Katherine Jackson's requests to be appointed the children's permanent guardian and to take charge of Jackson's estate.

Meanwhile, information about the delay in calling paramedics to Jackson's home came from Matt Alford, a partner in the law firm representing Dr. Conrad Murray, the physician who found Jackson with a faint pulse and performed CPR.

Alford said Murray was unfamiliar with his surroundings and that delayed the call. "He didn't know where he was, didn't know the physical address. There was no land line, no phone in Jackson's room that would have allowed him to call. It was all happening so fast."

Alford said he doesn't know how long Murray performed CPR on the singer before rushing downstairs and asking Jackson's chef to call 911. A security guard made the call and it took three minutes after that for paramedics to arrive, fire department officials have said.

They spent 42 minutes working with Murray on Jackson before transporting the 50-year-old pop icon to UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

In other developments yesterday, officials with the Los Angeles County coroner's office returned to the mansion Jackson was renting when he died and left with two large plastic bags of evidence.

Assistant chief coroner Ed Winter said the bags contained medication but declined to elaborate.

The coroner's office performed an autopsy on Jackson's body on Friday but deferred a decision on the cause of death, citing the need for further tests. A second, private autopsy was being performed Monday, according to Jackson's father, Joe.

Winter said the investigation will possibly continue for another four or five weeks, "with extensive testing."

There have been no details announced regarding Jackson's funeral, but many believe it could one of the largest celebrity memorial services ever. According to Britain's Daily Mail, the family is contemplating a private burial with a public remembrance, but some speculate more than a million people might flock to L.A. for the ceremony.

One senior Los Angeles police officer told the paper: "We are preparing for an event of historic proportions. We will be cooperating closely with the family once they have decided where to hold the funeral."

Complicating matters is that Jackson desired to be buried on his Neverland estate, which Joe Jackson has said won't happen.

It's expected there will be a battle over Jackson's property more convoluted than recent high-profile squabbles over the estates of singer James Brown and ex-Playboy playmate Anna Nicole Smith.

Complicating matters is that few, if any, people know all the details of the reclusive entertainer's financial affairs. His mother's filing, for example, declares that Jackson died "intestate," or without a will.

But celebrity website TMZ.com says that Jackson's lawyer has a copy of the pop singer's will and a source told the Associated Press last Friday that there is a will, which would take precedence in court.
